These $3,000 headphones roll up like a metal link bracelet – The Verge

On-ear and over-ear headphones generally tend to offer dramatically better sound than smaller, in-ear buds. The trade-off is, in exchange for better music, you have to carry around the bulkier, larger devices. But what if you didn’t? What if you could roll up a pair of on-ear headphones and just stow them in a jacket pocket like you do a pair of earbuds? That’s the idea behind the Luzli Roller MK01, a pair of handcrafted stainless steel and aluminum headphones that feature a headband similar to a metal link bracelet…

The Lamborghini Aventador S is music for an ultra-luxury car lover’s ears – The Verge

From up above, I spotted the trio of Lamborghinis parked in formation. The unmistakable sharp, angular forms cast in red, white, and blue sparkled in the sunshine. My heart jumped as the helicopter descended onto the Poconos Raceway in Pennsylvania. The effect was as it was orchestrated to be — stunning and seductive. I was part of an effort to woo a small cadre of journalists on the attributes of the Aventador S, or at least to give us a glimpse into how some Lamborghini customers use their sports cars.…

These six milestones can help ward off the climate apocalypse – The Verge

To save world from the climate change apocalypse, we need to start cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, a group of scientists claims. To help avoid the worst-case scenario, the scientists set six milestones to reduce carbon emissions across sectors, including energy, transportation, and infrastructure. By the end of the year, Dubai’s police force will have a new recruit patrolling the streets: a self-driving car that acts a mobile surveillance unit. The vehicle is about the size of a child’s toy electric buggy, reports Gulf News, and is equipped with 360-degree cameras that “scan for wanted criminals and undesirables” — presumably using facial recognition technology. Roboticist Mark Setrakian on Men in Black’s 20th anniversary: ‘It’s almost a perfect movie’ – The Verge

When Men in Black hit theaters on July 2nd, 1997, it was already fast becoming a phenomenon. It had a star-studded cast, including a freshly minted superstar in Will Smith. It had a hit song that briefly managed to overtake pop music. Now, 20 years later, it’s easy to take for granted how massive the movie was at the time — and how well it holds up. That’s not bad for a movie based on an obscure 1990 comic miniseries from a nigh-forgotten publisher. The truth is, Men in Black…

Volvo’s self-driving cars are having trouble recognizing kangaroos – The Verge

Volvo recently found that its self-driving cars cannot recognize kangaroos, because their manner of movement is different from other large animals. Speaking with ABC Australia, Volvo Australia’s technical manager David Pickett said the animal’s hopping throws off the car’s animal detection system. “We’ve noticed with the kangaroo being in mid-flight … when it’s in the air it actually looks like it’s further away, then it lands and it looks closer,” Pickett said. The system has been tested with other wildlife, and has been proven to identify animals like elk and…
